Cold & Flu Lotion Bar

1 part Beeswax
1 part Cocoa Butter
1 part Coconut Oil
1/2 tsp of Vicks Vapour Rub

Lotion Bar’s are a soap like bar that is a compressed moisturising lotion, which is rubbed directly onto the skin without water.

If you can not obtain coconut oil, then substitute it with apricot or other massage base oils.

Start by melting the ingredients together using a double boiler method. Once all the ingredients are melted, add the vapour rub and stir through. Pour the mix into suitable molds.

Soap molds that are square and basic are great for these lotion bars as they are easy to hold on to.

Headache Relief Pots

2 oz (55g) Beeswax
3 oz (85g)Shea Butter
4 oz (115g)Olive Oil
10-15 drops of lavender essential oil
Lip Balm containers or small jars

These Pots are great for traveling or keeping in your purse for those sudden headaches.

If you can not get hold of Shea butter, then substitute the 3 oz of Shea butter with 1 extra oz of
beeswax and 2 oz of either a massage oil base like Apricot oil, or use Olive Oil.

Start by melting the

beeswax and Shea Butter down in a double boiler method.

Once the bees wax is melted add all the oil’s together including the lavender oil.

Now add the mixture to small lip balm pots or miniature jam jars.

This recipe makes 9 0z (250g) of solid Headache relief balm.

How to use: Apply to your temples and take deep breaths.

Great Big Ideas for Little Jars

Posted By HomemadeGC on November 11, 2008

Do you have some little jars from baby food, pimentos or bouillon?

Think you can’t do much with them? Think again!

These are great for simple gift ideas, great for storage of small items, and can be used in the craft room or at your desk.

Simple Gift Ideas

Decorate with stickers and glitter paint. Fill them with chocolate hugs and kisses. Make a gift tag, “Here are your hugs and kisses!” Share them with a friend!

Make a “Snowman Kit”.

Fill the jar with cotton balls. Cut two tiny mittens from felt. Put them along the inside of the jar so they show. Cut a scarf from a piece of cotton fabric, fringe the ends and wrap it around the outside of the lid. Make a hat using the toe of an orphaned sock. It works great! Use a rubber band to attach the hat over the top of the jar so that the jar looks like it is wearing a hat. Make a gift tag, such as “I couldn’t send you snowman by mail without it melting so here is your kit to make your own”.

Great for single servings for friends, teachers or coworkers. These little jars hold one serving of soup or cocoa mixes and two servings of coffee and tea mixes. Fill the jar with cocoa, coffee or tea mixes and package them with mugs, spoons, or candy canes. Make a gift tag with instructions.

Other Big Ideas for Little Jars

  • Use for homemade bath salts, scrubs and salves.
  • Store something pretty and inspirational like small shells from your last beach trip.
  • Store special homemade herb or seasoning mixes.

In the Craft Room

  • Use for storing and sorting beads.
  • Use for storing or mixing paints.
  • Use for storing and sorting screws and other small bits of hardware.
  • Contain small bits of anything, such as buttons, bobbins, pins, etc.

At Your Desk

Contain paperclips, push pins or a pencil sharpener in a little jars to keep them from getting lost.

NO SEW PILLOW

Posted By HomemadeGC on October 19, 2008

What You Will Need:

  • Large piece of news paper to make
  • a pattern
  • 3/4 yard Polar fleece or flannel
  • Pillow form or fiber fill
  • The standard sizes for pillow forms are:
  • 14 inch, 16 inch, 18 inch (Shown is a 14 inch)
  • Sewing scissors
  • Pins
  • Tape measure
  • Ruler
  • Fabric marking pen or pencil

INSTRUCTIONS

Make a 22 inch square newspaper pattern for 14 inch pillow form See note below for larger pillow forms.

Fold fleece in half with the right sides out. Pin the pattern down at the edges and above the 4 inch mark too, to keep pattern from shifting to much while you cut away the corners and stripes. Cut as shown. Cut away each corner. Keep the two squares right side out and together at all times. Cut 1 inch strips around each side.
Remove the pattern. Keeping the squares together tie each opposite strip of the pillow together with a square knot. Move around the three sides, insert the pillow form, and tie remaining side.

If you stuff the pillow with fiber fill tie half of the 4th side then stuff as desired and tie the rest.

Polar fleece comes in many colors for both boys and girls. Sometimes an inexpensive way to buy polar fleece is to buy fleece blankets. Some are as low as $ 5.00. Flannel works well too, and has a more ragged look.

This is a super fun project for sleep over parties.

Note
(Add 8 inches to the size of pillow form purchased. 22 inch square pattern for a 14 inch pillow form. 24 inch square pattern for a 16 inch pillow, and a 26 inch square pattern for an 18 inch pillow.)
